Uncle Star / Piper Makes Her Appearance

A Great Man is Gone,
But Certainly Not Forgotten: Star Vance Smith

Time goes so quickly, things change whether we want them to or not. My Uncle Star passed away at his home outside of San Antonio, TX on Wed. Sept. 22. He and Aunt Betty were married for 60 years when she passed away in 2005. He was a great man of integrety and honesty. He loved God, his country and his family very much.

Bill was going to go down on Monday and drive his van, so he told me I could ride with him, Marge, Robin, and Mama. The funeral would be on Tuesday. JD and Soni took me over to Robin's neighborhood and we met Leah at the Sonic in town on Sunday night. We got up at 4:00 and loaded our things into Bill's van.

Piper Makes Her Appearence

We were on the road on Monday morning around 11:30 when Jerry called to tell us they were heading for the hospital with Shelby's contractions 4 minutes apart. Sounds like things are good to go, Right? At 4:49 p.m. Shelby texted me and told me she was ready to wrap it up and head home in time for supper. I was up still at 10:43p.m. or so when David called and left a message to tell me they had done a c-section, and that was all he knew.

Piper was low on oxygen so Shelby didn't even get to see her until the next day. Jerry took cameras in and took pictures of her for us. The next morning I was able to see her on our email, and I took a picture of her picture and took it with me so that I could show everyone.

Wednesday night I took Mom and Tim over so that we could see her and hold her. She is pretty special and has lots of dark hair. She slept well while we were there. We all had a wonderful time cuddling her and marveling at God's handiwork.

Jerry and Shelby are well suited to be mama and daddy to such a wonderful little girl, and they are ready? for a great adventure!!
